Ministering to the homeless can be discouraging, exasperating, and even heartbreaking. Wayne & Janel Wager (USA) know this firsthand. Wayne befriended D, a quiet young man with the face of a boy, a gang member who grew up in the projects, proud, confident, a convicted armed robber…the most isolated person in the shelter. For 21⁄2 years Wayne had the opportunity to share Christ with this very broken young man. Then in August, D shot and killed a man and will be locked up for 45 years to life. Why did Wayne invest so much in this tough kid? He answers, “Because Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost, and to me, D looked about as lost as a man can get. I have not reached him yet. But it’s not over, until it’s over, right?”
