Why do missionaries come to the United States on U.S. Assignment? Besides the usual answers, one missionary shared her perspective. “Because of the lack of sufficient ‘life-giving’ things, I have struggled with wondering if I was to continue ministry in this country. I am very thankful to come to the States. In one week alone it has felt like a huge breath of fresh air already.” For this missionary, visiting friends and family, getting a break from the oppressive heat and humidity of the country where she ministers, and being able to have daily walks have rejuvenated her desire to return to her mission field with a renewed vision for what the Lord can accomplish. In addition, she wrote about another “furlough” goal: “I desire to encourage young people to consider full-time ministry overseas. The need is great! As I see missionaries aging, I do not see many coming to replace those who are retiring. I have begun praying for more workers as part of my daily prayer time.”
