Missionary wives are equally gifted, often well-trained, and have much to offer. But despite their desire to minister outside their home, family priorities often limit their involvement. Many missionary wives are unsung heroes behind the scenes. Recently Justin Hoy (Senegal) wrote about this struggle. “At this stage of life, my wife’s (Rachel’s) main role is homeschooling our three kids, while I travel doing discipleship training in various areas. She does a great job of supporting me and disciplining our own kids. But sometimes I think she feels like she isn’t doing enough when it comes to the ministry. Recently, she had an opportunity to minister to a group of Christian ladies about an hour upriver and I took the backseat. As she shared with them through an interpreter, I saw many of them nodding along and really connecting to her in a way that I wouldn’t have been able to. She encouraged and challenged them, while humbly admitting that she is in the same boat. They’ve asked her to come back soon to coach and encourage them again, and she looks forward to helping spur them on in the faith.”
